You mentioned A514 cracking sensitivity during post weld heat treatment, is this true for welding that steel in general or only when welded to a dis-similar material (sauch as A572)?See all results for this question
Which is the best arc welding group A514 or A517?
The Procedure Handbook for Arc Welding groups A514 and A517 under the same category (Category D) and recommends the exact same processes and procedures. T-1 Steels (ASTM A514) have good weldability, but care must be taken when selecting the right process and welding procedure.See all results for this questionWhat kind of steel is welding ASTM A514?Welding ASTM A514 or A514M-05 steel? The other great thing about the laser process is the reliability. The consumable life is very long, and machine automation very good, so that many laser cutting operations can be done lights-out. Imagine, loading a 10 x 40 plate of 1/2 steel on the table, pressing the What Is Metal Active Gas (MAG) Welding?Apr 05, 2021 · MAG welding uses an active gas that makes it react well with construction steels and thick to medium-thick sheet metal. MAG welding produces intense heat, which can cause the CO 2 to split into carbon monoxide and oxygen. This can cause partial oxidation, which is why MAG is not used for welding light steels or alloy metals. MAG Transfer ModesWelding ASTM A514 or A514M-05 steel? - The FabricatorJun 12, 2007 · Welding A514 is not complicated when some precautions, especially with filler metal choices, are used. A primary concern is filler metal hydrogen content. You should not use filler metals that deposit weld metal with diffusible hydrogen content greater than 8 ml per 100 grams of deposited weld metal.Estimated Reading Time: 5 mins

Dec 21, 2006 · Well, the ASTM A 514 Grade Q steel plate can crack during a post weld heat treatment because this plate contains vanadium, regardless if welded to itself or to another material. Vanadium is added to increase (ambient and elevated temperature) strength and typically renders a steel more susceptible to cracking during post weld heat treatment (PWHT); the term is also called reheat cracking. You need to be more specific on the Grade of 514.
